Ingredients
For the Blackened Shrimp
- 1½ lbs large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on optional)
- 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- 1½ tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp cayenne (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp dried thyme
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ¾ tsp kosher salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Lemon wedges, for serving
For the Sweet Home Moonshine Slaw
- 3 cups shredded green cabbage
- 1 cup shredded purple cabbage
- ½ cup shredded carrots
- ¼ cup thinly sliced green onions
- Moonshine Slaw Dressing
- ¼ cup Sweet Home Moonshine Slaw
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- Pinch of salt and black pepper
Instructions
Make the Moonshine Slaw
- In a large bowl, combine green cabbage, purple cabbage, carrots, and green onions.
- In a small bowl, whisk together moonshine, apple cider vinegar, mayonnaise, honey, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Toss dressing with slaw until evenly coated. Refrigerate 15–20 minutes to allow flavors to develop.
- Prepare the Blackened Shrimp
- Pat shrimp dry and toss with olive oil or melted butter.
- In a small bowl, mix paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Coat shrimp evenly with the spice mixture.
Cook the Shrimp
- Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until very hot.
- Add shrimp in a single layer and cook 2–3 minutes per side, until charred, opaque, and curled. Work in batches if needed.
Chef’s Tip: Don’t overcrowd the skillet—blackened shrimp need space to char, not steam.
Serve
