Sweet Home Cowboy Hot Pepper Relish

Bold, tangy, and just hot enough, this Cowboy Hot Pepper Relish brings together sweet peppers, vinegar bite, and a slow-building heat—perfect for burgers, hot dogs, grilled meats, or spooned straight onto cornbread.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup finely diced sweet peppers (red & green bell peppers)
  • ½ cup finely diced onion
  • ½ cup Sweet Home Mild Onion Chow Chow, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup Sweet Home Cowboy Five Pepper Jelly, chopped or whisked smooth
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Sweet Home Red Muscadine Juice
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for balance)
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional, to taste)

Instructions

  • Sauté the base
    In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add peppers and onion. Cook 5–7 minutes until softened.
  • Build the flavor
    Stir in the chopped Chow Chow, Cowboy Five Pepper Jelly, apple cider vinegar, and Red Muscadine Juice.
  • Simmer & thicken
    Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and relish-like.
  • Season to taste
    Add salt, sugar (if using), and red pepper flakes. Adjust heat and sweetness as desired.
  • Cool & store
    Let cool completely. Store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
